Prince Bishops Shopping Centre, and the centre’s retailers, play a proactive role in supporting a wide range of charities and community initiatives.
Each year, the centre works with various charities, and is a longstanding supporter of The Mayors Appeal, which raises funds for local charities. Prince Bishops has also supported The Rotary Club, offering them exhibition space in the centre during Rotary Week to raise the profile of its ‘Thanks For Life’ initiative.
As an integral part of the Durham community, Prince Bishops also works with local schools. It has invited local school children to design the centre’s Christmas cards, and annually runs its ‘Put Mum in the Picture’ competition, with prizes going to both the winning child and their school. The centre has also sponsored local football team, Chester Le Street Youth FC, providing them with new kit this season.
Prince Bishops also supports green initiatives, and received a Gold Award as part of Keep Britain Tidy’s Tidy Business Standards, becoming the first business to win this award for the third year running. The Tidy Business Standards recognise excellence in implementation and participation in environmental schemes, commitment to enhancing the local community, and practical efforts to improve the local environment. Other schemes such as Christmas card recycling facilities add to the centre’s green credentials.
