Durham Shopping Centre Raises Money for Children’s Hospitals
Prince Bishops shopping centre has raised money for two children’s hospitals through participating in Great Ormond Street Hospital’s ‘One Great Day’ event.
They were one of 140 shopping centres throughout the UK which recently took part in the One Great Day family fundraiser initiative masterminded by the UK-wide Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.
As part of the nationwide event, Prince Bishops held a prominent fundraising day on its malls to raise money for the children’s hospital, and also, more locally, Treetops Children’s Ward at University Hospital of North Durham (UHND). The family fun day in Durham City Centre featured traditional-fair activities for children including Spin The Wheel, Hook-A-Duck and Skittles. Durham City Roller Angels also joined in the occasion, roaming the malls on rollerboots, handing out stickers, balloons and information about the event to all who were passing, and encouraging everyone to take a break, have fun, and learn more about the hospitals and their work.
Overall, the event successfully raised over £600 for Treetops Ward UHND and Great Ormond Street across the day.
Richard Toynbee, Centre Manager of Prince Bishops Shopping Centre, said:
“Thank you to all who took part in our One Great Day event. The event has been a great way to bring the community together and raise funds to help Great Ormond Street and Treetops Ward UHND make children’s lives better. Thank you for all your support and we hope very much to repeat the event again next year.”
One Great Day was established in 2014 and has so far raised over £400,000 for 93 different children’s charities along with Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. One Great Day now covers over 50 million square feet of retail space across the United Kingdom, from Folkestone to Aberdeen.
