Children have a wild time in Durham
Over a hundred children flocked to a Durham shopping centre on Saturday (11 October) to take part in a wildlife themed event celebrating The Wind in the Willows, this year’s Durham Book Festival Big Read.
Prince Bishops Shopping Centre welcomed families to its free storytelling and craft day and gave away 100’s of free copies of the children’s classic tale.
They were joined by Stella the Storyteller who enchanted the children with tales of Ratty, Toad, Badger and Mr Toad through interactive storytelling sessions, games and songs.
Laura Cowap, a mum from Chester-Le-Street brought her two daughters to the event.
“We have had a fantastic time this morning. Both my girls enjoyed listening to the Stella the Storyteller and joining in the songs and games. The wildlife crafts were also great fun and I’m looking forward to reading our free copy of the book to my daughters at bedtime.”
Richard Toynbee, centre manager of Prince Bishops Shopping Centre, said; “We were thrilled by how many families came to our event and the positive comments we received throughout the day.
“The Durham Book Festival continues to improve year-on-year and it’s been great to be involved in it through hosting a Durham Big Read event.”
