NEWS: Santa's sacks full of cash for Treetops ward
Prince Bishops Shopping Centre got into the festive spirit by raising money for The Treetops Paediatric Ward at The University Hospital of North Durham.
The shopping complex provided a free 'Santa's Grotto' experience last December where children from Durham got to meet Santa in his woodland lodge and parents were asked to donate to the local hospital. A total of £370 was raised for Treetops who provide vital paediatric care for children across County Durham.
Richard Toynbee, centre manager of Prince Bishops Shopping Centre, said; "Our grotto has become a staple part of Christmas in Durham City which thousands of children have enjoyed visiting over the years.
“This year, we wanted to give something back to visitors to the centre and decided to run the grotto for free while at the same time, raising some money for a worthy, local cause." The funds raised will go towards providing new equipment on the ward.
Colin Smith, ward manager of Tree Tops said; “We are very grateful to the amazing people and businesses that fundraise for us and Prince Bishops Shopping Centre is one of them. “The money donated, thanks to the people who visited Santa’s grotto, will be put towards providing new beds for parents who need to stay overnight.”
