Durham city's best EVER grotto now open!

Durham City Santa Grotto

Shoppers can enjoy a magical Christmas experience, right in the heart of Durham city free of charge. For the first time Prince Bishops Shopping Centre have installed an enchanted wonderland in the kids department inside M&Co that opened in the unit where BHS once traded from on Saturday 18th November.

Children can be amazed by an impressive animated miniature village , Christmas Land! The mini town is complete with a working cable car that transports the small people of Christmas Land from one snowy mountain to another, a slippery ice skating rink and even an eggnog factory! Visitors can also discover a leafy woodland scene scattered with naughty elves that might take you by surprise with their whereabouts and magical creatures hiding in the undergrowth! Finally, a sparkling frozen ice castle and snowy scene greets families while they wait to see the man in red!  Is this Durham city's best ever grotto? Come and see for yourself ; the opening weekend saw a record number of visitors with one shopper commenting: " it was absolutely fantastic when I took my little ones on Saturday to see Santa, it's great the way it has been done. You can really see all the time and effort that's gone into it. I also love the fact it is indoors and in the warm, which is an extra added bonus."

Entry to the grotto and Christmas wonderland is free this year but the shopping centre is accepting donations to its charity partner for 2017/18, Heel & Toe Children’s Charity, who provide free therapy for children with physical disabilities in the North East.

Richard Toynbee, Centre Manager commented: “this year we really wanted to create something pretty spectacular as an attraction to bring shoppers into Durham city and I think it’s fair to say we’ve achieved that! What’s more, we are supporting a charity that focuses on children, which is really apt as families are at the centre of everything we do here.”

Santa will be in residence Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays up until Christmas Eve.
